Notes from the Bench: The Beginning

Making things is harder than it looks.

The tools are capable, the materials are real, and the margin for error is small. Every decision shows up in the final piece. That’s what makes the work frustrating at times—and deeply rewarding when it comes together.

Two Sierra started in that space.

We’re beginning with slate coasters. Not because they’re simple, but because they’re not. Slate is unforgiving. Contrast, depth, consistency, finish—small changes produce very different results. Starting here forces the kind of discipline and repeatability we want as a foundation before we move on to anything else.

There’s more we want to explore eventually: realtor closing gifts, wedding pieces, commemorative work that values meaning over volume. But that comes later. For now, the focus is narrow on purpose.

These updates will be a brief record of what we’re working on, what we’re learning, and what stands out along the way. No launches. No hype. Just notes from the bench as we build something worth putting our name on.

We’re glad you’re here.
